KLD Reports, Part Three: Final Day

--- from previous post ---

The final day of Projek Basah 2.0, almost everyone woke up enthusiastically. Yes, the pain from the previous day activities was still very much there, all our joints hurt, some people even suffered minor cramed on their calves and biceps, but the thought of being able to kayak all over the lake, and the excitement of the Kayak Safari was too much to be ignored. For me personally, this is what really tempted me to join this particular camp in KLD, I haven't involved in any kayaking or canoeing activities for almost ten years, the last time was when I was in Form 4, so I am very, very much looking forward for this. After breakfast and did some stretching exercises, we was guided to the jetty. The instructors gave us a crash course on kayaking, before each of us was divided into group of two, mostly a male and a female, where the male participant is supposed to be the one who guide the kayak and do the most of the paddling. Not to complain, the guys obliged. For DBA team, I was partnered with de5Lin, Basri with Has, Pulut with KakYah and Diman with Nida. Each group was given bouyancy aids (BA), paddle, and a two-person kayak, and set-off one kayak after another.

Everyone has taken that opportunity to find their rhytm, and try to manouvre the kayak using the techniques taught, forward-paddling and back-paddling stuff. GJs proved to be a smart lot, and fast learners too, where without even instructed, we managed to setup 'raft' formation while waiting for everyone. After some more instruction on the real purpose of 'raft' formation of kayak, and some demonstration of kayak-switching, we set off for the Safari course. It was a very slow and steady pace of kayaking through the thick plants at the side of the lake. The water was shallow and filled with a lot of waterplant. All over the course, in the water, there are plenty of dead tree's , which makes it very difficult to manouvre the kayak. A lot of time, we need to reverse back and try to change direction. Backpaddling really proves to be an asset here. We are not in a race, so we just take our time enjoying the view, which are very spectacular indeed, while waiting for the kayak infront of us to make a move and clear the path. The course had really sped up our learning curve in handling the kayak, which has also improved our confident in the water. I would like to finish the whole course next time when I am back for more adventure on Projek Basah 3.0.

Afterwards, we head back to the jetty, this time for some further instruction on kayak surviving skills. We were showed how to get up from the water into the kayak, the proper way, either from the front side of the kayak or from the rear side of the kayak. Then, everyone paddled to yellow checkpoint of the lake, where the water is much more deeper (more than 10 foot deep) to try the skills on their own. Some are lucky enough to be able to complete the task the proper way, while others need a little improvisation like using a parallel kayak to drag themselves into their own kayak. Nida was a special case, she has to get up to other kayak first before transferring herself to her own kayak despite her lightweight because she is with Diman, and their kayak is actually 'terjongket' :p.

When Diman tries to complete the task, gravity was not so kind to him... Diman tripped and falled into the water, and managed to turn their kayak upside down in the process. Nida, again falls into the water, but now, even TokRimau and Attokz on the nearby kayak has been pulled into the whole turnover accident. Too bad for Attokz, his digicam and Basri's car keys follow suits, but only the digicam has been able to be retrieved. Because of the accident, now we had been able to learn a new stuff, how to dry up the water in the kayak in case it turn over, just like in Diman and Attokz case. Definitely not an easy task to accomplish. Finally, after everyone managed to accomplished the task of getting in the kayak, Diman included, we called it a day and paddled back to the jetty, where we take turns to clean up the kayak and BA, before having our tea break. Afterwards, last 'dugong-duging' session, which lasted almost two hours, we really "Basah" this time around. "Basah and Kecut :p". Then its packing, clean-up, prayer and lunch time.

The Projek Basah 2.0 officially ended at around 1500 hrs. A very big applause to the organizing committee who despite all the obstacles still managed to turn Projek Basah 2.0 a success. Kudos to Basri, Attokz, Salina, Langsatz, Diman and everyone of GJ who has worked very hard and having their own share of Jiwa Kacau to make this whole ordeal a success story. And a very big thanks to KLD staff and management who has been very patience in dealing with all kind of participants in this project, there is definately a little kid in every single one of us, thanks for all the attentions and guidances.

I will definately come back for more adventure, because Projek Basah 2.0 has really served up it motto, my "Jiwa Kacau" is definately washed away, and I am every bit "Jiwa Kental" now. Thanks all.

nesloice walks through at 8:00 PM.
